Vegan Skin Care, Explained

We live in time where society is demanding more and more transparency for what they’re eating and putting in their bodies, as well as what they’re putting on it, in the form of cosmetics and skincare.

So what is vegan skincare? Just like food in a vegan diet, vegan skincare contains no animal products, and of course, are never tested on animals. Animal products are actually extremely common ingredients in skincare. Some examples of animal products used in skin care are:

  • Honey
  • Beeswax
  • Silk
  • Keratin
  • Elastin
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Lanolin
  • Collagen

But don’t panic if your vegan skin care products contain any of these. There are ways to produce some of these ingredients synthetically that allow them to be vegan.

But why is vegan skincare all the rage? Not only are vegan products kinder to animals, but vegan skin care products tend to be gentler on skin. Consumers of vegan skin and hair care products are looking for products that contain pure ingredients, natural minerals, plant-based ingredients and vitamins rather than animal products and harsh chemicals that can irritate skin.

Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for vegan skin care product brands to still test their products on animals. The good news is, all of Nurture My Body products are vegan and cruelty free, so if those are specifics you care about when choosing skin and hair care, we’ve got you covered. Choose from shampoo and conditioner, moisturizers, serums or baby care products, and know that they’re only made with certified organic, plant materials that are gentle and nourishing to skin.
